Effect of Naloxone on the Patients with Cerebrovascular Accident

Abstract
Fifteen patients with cerebral hemorrhage and five patients with cerebral infarction were treated with 400¥ìg of Naloxone initially and 5mg daily thereafter for 7 days. The parameters including blood pressure, pulse rate, respiration and body temperature were compared with that of control group (fifteen patients with cerebral hemorrhage and five patients with cerebral infarction) one hour after initial IV infusion and also durations for recovery of consciousness were examined seven days after hospitalization.
The following results were obtained; 1) Unexplained hypotension in patients with stroke may respond to Naloxone providing increased endogenous opioid activity is responsible for that. 2) Depressed respiration may also respond to Naloxone. 3) To evaluate the effect of Naloxone on recovery of consciousness in stroke, further studies are needed.
